In 2017, PPC informally began when advocates for patients and consumers gathered to share breakfast burritos and strategize on collective action to prevent harmful reforms that would have eroded coverage and patient protections in health insurance.
From its beginning, PPC has been powered by people – those that PPC’s member organizations represent and serve, and the people working at these organizations who are passionate about improving the U.S. health system.
PPC started as a loose coalition of handful of organizations focused on Congressional affairs. PPC was formally incorporated as a 501(c))4) nonprofit in 2022 and has now grown to be more than 45 leading patient and consumer advocacy organizations who advocate with Congress, federal agencies, state legislatures, and state agencies to ensure access to accessible, affordable, adequate health insurance.
